Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the health benefits of SwingChair?

The most important health benefit, less stress on your legs, hips, back and neck, comes from the simple fact that our bodies are designed to move, not to sit for hours. We are constantly reminded to exercise, to stretch; motion is essential for maintaining nutrition to the discs of our spine. Our customers report that the unrestricted, natural human motion of the SwingChair reduces and in many cases eliminates pain in the legs, hips and low back, even in the shoulders and neck. When sitting is less stressful, you not only feel more comfortable, you have more energy and your concentration improves, increasing your productivity.

Q. Some chair companies make chairs to a specific person’s body type. How does the SwingChair compare?

Customizing a chair is one way chair manufacturers improve the fit of their chair to your body. But the goal is both a good fit and a good ride. Using a chair that fits you perfectly for one posture is not much better than a chair that fits you poorly: both lock your spine and prevent the motion so necessary to good health. Initial comfort can be very high for a customized chair, but the long-term problems persistent with fixed postures will still be there.

SwingChairs offer 4 ways to personalize the fit of the chair to your body and your work. Our instructional guides and videos provide simple instructions for optimizing the fit of SwingChair.

Q. What materials are used in the SwingChair?

Mechanism – high strength steel

Cushions – plywood/foam/fabric (meet Cal 117 Fire Safety Requirements)

Base/casters/gas lift meet BIFMA standards for safety

Q. Are there other style or color options?

The SwingChair is available in Raven Black.

Q. The History of the SwingChair

SwingChair is the invention of Hector Serber. Manufacturing began in 2004. Since that time, tens of thousands of customers have discovered why SwingChair is the best chair for bad backs. The company has been headquartered in northern California since its inception, where the concentration of high tech workers and leading universities studying health and wellness provided SmartMotion and Mr. Serber with a wealth of information from which to develop its technology and products.

Q. Technical Validation of SwingChair

SwingChair was cited by two highly published authors at the 2011 Ergonomics Conference as the single best example of a chair that prevents the static postures and repetitive strain that cause injury to people who must sit for long periods of time. They described how the use of PMRI (Positional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) allowed researchers to see and understand, for the first time ever, how static postures load the spine and cause actual shredding of the ligaments in the low back.

The same counterbalanced motion technology in SwingChair is being evaluated by Boeing, Chrysler, Fiat, Mercedes and other manufacturers to improve comfort and reduce injury for occupants of vehicles they build. SwingChair’s unique mechanism dramatically reduces dynamic loading to the occupant during impact, in turn reducing the forces that cause injury during a crash.
